Alaska Kayak Fishing

This is it people. The absolute best kayak fishing in Alaska. Insane halibut and salmon fishing, combined with whales, bear, deer, lots of eagles, and premier accommodations aboard the floating Rocky Bay Lodge. Your trip will start with a float plane trip out of Ketchikan, flying you over SE Alaska's lush rainforest and waterways, eventually landing you in a protected cove on the southern tip of Prince of Wales island. Here, Rocky Bay Lodge will be home base, providing very nice private rooms with hot showers, great meals, and fish processing. You can tell your fish stories around the fire in the lounge at night. This is a first class lodge.

Each day after breakfast, you'll have a guided kayak trip. No two days will be the same, as we perouse the small islands and kelp beds fishing for a variety of species including Kings Salmon, Silvers Salmon (Coho), Halibut, Lingcod, Yelloweye, etc. This area is extremely productive and offers the best in fishing, wildlife viewing, and remote kayaking. Chances for quality photography are abundant. Humpback whales are frequently seen, and orcas come through as well. Bear and deer on shore are common, and there are seals, sea lions, otters, and always a few bald eagles watching your every move.

The kayak trips focus on a variety of topics including specific kayak techniques for landing halibut and salmon, as well as eco awareness and general outdoor skills. You'll learn about the fishes life cycles and habits, and what differentiates each species. From fishing to touring to stopping on a beach for lunch and a fire, the tours will leave you a more confident and aware kayaker. Besides catching fish, you will also have the opportunity to pull your own shrimp pots, and take home what you get. Your fish will be filleted, vacuum sealed, and packed in airline approved fish boxes.

Daylight hours are long so you'll have time for a variety of activities in a single day. Designated wilderness surrounds the area, with dense rainforest, rock walls, beaches, and many small islands along the shoreline. This is an outdoor paradise, offering a kayaking experience you just can't get anywhere else. When your arms are sore from pulling on big fish, you can beach comb, shoot some photos, hike, pull some shrimp pots, or take a nap.

If you want the best of the best, this is the trip for you. The hottest fishing, the best chance for paddling with whales and seeing bears, a remote setting, and the finest accommodations make this a one of a kind trip. Join us in 2008 for these exciting trips as we kayak fish the super productive Cape Chacon area. We look forward to fishing with you!
