General Information


Location
Located at the Southern tip of Prince of Wales Island just minutes from Legendary Cape Chacon. Nestled in the calm protected water of Nichols Bay which is one of thousands of Bays, Inlets, Canals, Straits, and Islands that is collectively know as the Alexander Archipelago. Rocky Bay Lodge is only accessed by Floatplane or Boat. Our location offers anglers an opportunity get away from it all with the best fishing grounds in Southern Southeast Alaska right out our front door. Cape Chacon is a turning point for all the Salmon that are returning from the open ocean to spawn in the Southern Southeast Streams near Ketchikan and surrounding area.

 

Getting to Rocky Bay Lodge

Our Guest Arrive in Ketchikan Early afternoon around 4:00pm on Alaska Airlines. Alaska Airlines is the only major airline that services Ketchikan. All Flights from the lower 48 originate from Seattle, Washington, which is a short 90 min flight. After your arrival into Ketchikan, you then proceed to the floatplane dock for a 30 minute scenic floatplane flight to Rocky Bay Lodge.

Guests arriving earlier than 2:00pm
If your flight arrives earlier that 2:00pm you have the option to take the airport ferry to Ketchikan to do some sightseeing before your flight to Rocky Bay Lodge. Ketchikan International Airport is on an island adjacent to Ketchikan and is only accessible by ferry which you can catch every 30 minutes or the Ketchikan Water Taxi which can take you anywhere in Ketchikan. Please call if you plan to arrive before 2:00 pm and we can prearrange your activates including your departure flight from Ketchikan Harbor instead of the airport.

Sample Trip Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival
Arrive in Ketchikan at 3:45 p.m. The floatplane picks you up around 4:30 for a spectacular 30-minute flight to Rocky Bay Lodge on the Southern Tip Of Prince of Whales Island. There, you will be greeted the owners and given a tour of the lodge and then bought to the Lounge and Dinning Room sit back and take in the view a moment while enjoying our mouthwatering appetizers while waiting to check in. Our Rocky Bay Lodge Team will then show you to your room to get settled. An Alaskan meal will be served at 6 p.m. After Dinner it is time to check out the boats you will be fishing in the next day and be fitted for your raingear and boots if needed.

Fishing Days
Prior to Breakfast, customize you lunch from our lunch table. We eat lunch on the boat so we don't miss out on fishing time. A Big Breakfast is served at 6:30 a.m. and then off to the boat at 7:00 a.m. for a full day of Legendary Cape Chacon Fishing. Upon returning to the Lodge it is picture time and weighing in you catch. Our crew will then begin to Custom process your catch. After a long day on the water, relax and enjoy our lounge over looking the bay. Another mouthwatering Alaskan Seafood cuisine is served at 6:00 p.m.

Departure Day
This is you last morning at Rocky Bay Lodge. A Hardy Breakfast is served at 6:30 a.m. followed by a departure back to Ketchikan between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. We have a couple of options for you. One is going directly to the airport for your departure on Alaska Airlines or, Two if your flight does not leave until the afternoon or the next day you can request us to have the airline bring you to downtown Ketchikan see the local sites. There you can catch a taxi or courtesy van to the airport or hotel

Things To Bring

Please Pack Lightly. Most major airlines allow you to check two bags under 50 pounds. If you pack light enough to have just a “carry on” you will be able to take home two 50 pound fish boxes without additional cost on your return trip home. We have washers and dryers available for your use.

Processing Your Catch
After each day of fishing your catch will be custom processed. Your Salmon, Halibut, Lingcod, and Rockfish will be filleted, vacuum Packed, and then quickly frozen. After frozen your fish will be placed in an airline approved box. The box will be strapped and weighed slightly less than 50 pounds so you can take it on the airline without an over weight charge.

 

Fishing Licenses

Fishing Licenses:
An Alaska sport fishing license is required for all nonresidents 16 and over. Anyone under the age of 16 is not required to have a sport fishing license. We will have your license and King Salmon stamp ready and waiting upon check-in.
